I had my first son when I was 22 and my second, a year and a half later. At that time, I was branded and bound by the phrase “Baby Mama.” The negative stigma attached to these words kept me from living my best life, and sadly, my children had to witness it all. I felt as if the stigma attached to being a single mother told my story before I had the chance to. These two words held me captive and left me powerless and prevented me from doing the things that I was called to do. I then began to root my identity in the things that people thought and said about me. I was limited by others beliefs and convinced myself that I would never be enough. I was depressed and had no sense of purpose. But thank God for His decision to still love me, flaws and all. With His love and support, I was able to begin my internal healing process.
In the beginning, I deeply desired to become more than the broken woman that I was. That’s when I started to study God’s word and apply it to my life. I also began to pray like never before. After connecting with Christ on a daily, I became detached from low self-esteem, confusion, depression, and self-doubt. I was also freed from bitterness, anger, and frustration. I was no longer broken or bitter. Forgiveness was an everyday occurrence and resentment was a thing of the past. I was finally free to be who I was designed to be and who my children needed me to be. Ultimately, I became who God intended me to be. And I believe that He is asking you to do the same. He’s asking you shed the dead weight and negative mindset today. There are people waiting for you to become whole so that you can impact their lives the way God designed you to.
Our families, the church, our jobs, and local communities all need us to show up and be who God created us to be. We have great things to do but we can’t do them if we are bound. I suggest that you take a look over your life and evaluate your current state of freedom. Is your mind free and clear to rest with no worry or anxiety? Is your physical body capable of doing all that God is calling you to do like travel and minister to His people? Is there any baggage from your past that can’t go into your future?
As daughters of the Most High King, we are guaranteed wholeness and freedom in Christ. Apart from God, we will remain bound. In our freedom, we have the ability to fully walk in our callings with little to no hindrances. I’m asking that you will connect with Christ today and partner with Him for your current and continued freedom. This starts with making an effort daily to read and speak His word over your life so that His words can transform your life. Meditate, fast, and pray so that you can receive all that He has for you. God says it clearly in His word. “If you hold onto my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32. Sister, your freedom is calling and I suggest that you answer.
