Kimee’s Story

Kimee’s Story

Hi, my name is Kimee Burke.

Life has not always been easy for me, but my dear SAVIOR has always carried me through the rough times. A lot of times we feel alone physically, but as soon as we call out to him, he is right there to listen to our cries and just hold us. Who on earth can give you that comfort like JESUS?

My favorite verse that has always stuck close to my heart is Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you, “declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Now let me know tell you a little bit about myself…..

I was raised in a Christian home my entire life. My parents took me to church every Sunday and Thursday. I asked Jesus to take control of my life at the age of 11 years old. As a little girl, I had a lot of health issues; I was born with a very rare skin disorder called: Linear Nervous Sebachious Syndrome. The doctors knew nothing about this back in 1982 when I was born, but as they began to do research they discovered that only five babies in the world had what I had, it was a shocker! My parents were thrown by what I was born with, however, when I turned 2 years old my mom was getting concerned because I kept falling down. So, my parent took me back to the doctor and was evaluated by almost 200 doctors in one day because they could not pin point what was going on. So the conclusion came to be that I would not be able to do anything on my own. With the faith of Christ that my Dad (Rusty Burke) had in him he knew all these doctors were lying. He kept telling them NO, MY DAUGHTER will be independent because of Christ. They laughed at him. So, time went on, I was getting ready to start school. My sister Lynn was attending private schools and my Dad wanted me with her. So, I was enrolled at Southwest Christian Academy. I completed Kindergarten and was getting ready to start first grade-when my first grade teacher noticed something at the beginning of the school year. She noticed I was having a hard time comprehending things and was not going to be successful in a Regular Education setting, my father was furious, but believed Mrs. Pierce (first grade teacher) knew what she was talking about, with her help I went through extensive testing at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. The doctors then came back to tell my parents that I had a learning disability and needed to be in a small classroom setting, with no more than ten children. He accepted that, but was totally against me going in to a public school district, but that was his only choice, the private schools did not have what I needed. So I was enrolled in the Cleveland Public School District. My freshmen year in high school I began to suffer from migraine headaches, which was caused from the skin disorder because it grows thickening of the bone in my body. I began to see a neurologist who was unsuccessful with finding a cause for these migraines. So, I was referred to a neurosurgeon (biggest scare of my life). I knew a surgery was in the making. Well, boom at the end of my junior year in high school it was caught on a MRI and CT scan that the thickening of the bone was growing over my skull and putting pressure on my brain. That summer, it was determined that I would be having brain surgery. Thank you Jesus that he gave me one of the best surgeons at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, Dr. Shenandoah Robinson. She was a God sent because without her and her team and Christ I don’t know where I would be today. At the beginning of my senior year in high school, she removed part of my skull and put a plastic plate in with three screws. It was touch and go during surgery, but after three blood transfusions and GOD’S protection he pulled me through. We serve a mighty physician!!!!!! In June 2001, I graduated from Jane Addams Business Career Center, where my concentration was on accounting/computer business systems. My main goal in life was to become a school secretary within the Cleveland Public School district (that is all I wanted to do, I wanted nothing to do with college). But, GOD had a different plan. A word of advice, when GOD has a plan for you, don’t fight him on that plan, we need to follow his ways. He is our leader and we must follow him in obedience! Well, GOD’S plan was not my plan, but I listened and was obedient. But, on a side note, he gave me that school secretary position that I always wanted, but he also opened an opportunity for me to do tutoring for young children in the school building I was working at, that was the door he opened up and said, you will be a school teacher one day! I was so scared at first, but he walked every step with me and in December 2012, I graduated from Cuyahoga Community College with my associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. But, he had an even bigger plan for my life; he said I have opened up a bigger door for your four degree. I just paused and cried out to him saying, I can’t do it, NO, I can’t! But, he showed me according to Jeremiah 29:11 that he had plans to prosper me and not to harm me. He knew my future was for young children. On April 13, 2012, I got accepted into the partnership program at Cleveland State University and with the help of my savior and my sweet Christian sisters in Christ, I graduated with honors from Cleveland State University with my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I can honestly sit here today and say with a passion that GOD made Jeremiah 29:11 a true verse throughout my education years! He has shown me time and time again how true that verse is if you only apply it to your life!

As a Christian we all struggle but GOD is the ultimate healer and comforter of our lives, just cry out to him! He is there holding us in his arms always, he never leaves us lonely! I pray that this touches your heart. One thing I ask is that you just keep JESUS close and never let go of his promises for your life, no matter what the struggle, he is there at all times! I pray that as you read my story that it touches your heart by knowing god has plans to prosper you and not to harm you! He has your future in his hands.

Love you all,

Kimee Burke
